Denver was an amazing conference and way more than a mile high with generous donors! The Foundation Board is truly grateful and excited about the many deserving students that these donations will support by awarding many more scholarships.
This year we had a Trivia Night to kick off our FUNdraising! Teams competed for three rounds of Trivia. Attendees proved that even accounting and finance professionals can be creative….or not. Some of the team names were Born to Depreciate, 2 for the Money, Bicoastal 4, The Winners, Numbers Crunchers, LIFO de Party & Cloud 9. Magnificent 7 was the overall winner and the team members were Beverly Anderson, Monika Miles, Marie Ramkey and Melody Sumpter. Do you know what the answer is to this statement? “The Pascaline invented by Blain Pascal in the early 17th century was a mechanical type of what Device.” If not, contact one of the winning team members for the answer.
The FUNdraising activities continued throughout the conference including a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle. Conference attendees had the opportunity to bid on items such as custom made jewelry, handbags, electronics, and various other items. We are very thankful for the generous donations made by AFWA chapters, affiliates, and individuals. The silent auction raised over $3,900. And the exciting raffle draw netted the winner $650!
At the Foundation’s Annual Luncheon, we got to meet three scholarship winners and hear how our local and national scholarship awards made an impact on their lives. It was an honor to hear Michelle Harding, our first recipient of the Dr. Mary Feeney Bonawitz, Accounting PhD Scholarship, Ashley Huss and Katie Eagen each tell their stories.
On behalf of The Foundation board, we would like to say a Huge “Thank You!!” to all who supported our FUNdraising efforts during the 2016 AFWA National Conference. In total, we raised over $26,000 for The Foundation. Your generous support will allow The Foundation to continue their mission to promote and advance education, career development, and leadership in finance and accounting. If you were not able to attend the National Conference and would like to support The Foundation, please visit our website FoundationOfAFWA.org or email us at email@example.com.
