Award Nomination Guidelines

Nominations are open May 1 to August 1.

AFWA’s members reflect our values – empowerment, leadership, integrity, and passion. Each year the Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance proudly recognizes outstanding women who exemplify these values in career and life, setting a positive example for other women in the industry.

Submission Guidelines:

All applications must be submitted to AFWA Headquarters by August 1st to be eligible for consideration. The application should include a Nomination Form and responses to the Evaluation Criteria. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Only one nomination per form; however, multiple nominations are encouraged! Winners will be recognized at the annual Women Who Count National Conference during the Signature Event. Can we count you in to come celebrate and honor their achievements and contributions. These women in the field bring unique skills, and leadership to their companies and AFWA. Come celebrate with us in October!

WOMEN WHO COUNT AWARDS

Nominations Categories

Emerging Leader for AFWA members up to age 35 or with less than 5 years in the field as of October 20 who have set the standard of excellence in their professional lives through leadership, mentoring and career achievement.

Excellent Student for AFWA student members that demonstrate exemplary leadership skills and a drive to be successful in their chosen career path. This individual exemplifies leadership in their career and life, setting a positive example for other women in the industry (must be a current student).

Industry Professional for AFWA members who have made an extraordinary personal or professional commitment that contributes to the advancement of the accounting/finance industry.

Public Practice for AFWA members who have made a significant contribution to the leadership of the industry through superior professional competence and positive change.

Small Business for AFWA members who have a small non-franchised business and contributes to their local communities.

Academic for AFWA members who have contributed significantly to the academic community and education of others. (e.g. dedication to their studies, innovative thinking, and continuous learning and growth)

AFWA Leadership for AFWA Chapter members who have demonstrated excellence in chapter leadership, chapter communications, national committee participation or conference attendance.

Community Impact for AFWA Members who demonstrate a strong sense of compassion, empathy, and a willingness to give back to society through their selfless contributions, impact on the community and commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

The Women Who Count Awards will be presented to those nominees who stand out in their careers and exemplify the following criteria:

  • Empowerment: a drive to take on challenges, strives for success in her current position, and possesses a desire for career advancement.
  • Leadership: leadership qualities in her career and her community.
  • Integrity: values quality and has earned the trust and respect of her clients and/or peers.
  • Passion: enthusiasm toward her career and the accounting and finance industry as a whole

CHAPTER ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

Chapter achievement awards are given to AFWA Chapters that have achieved excellence in membership, communications, programming, scholarship, and public service.

Membership: This award recognizes chapters that have excelled in their membership recruitment and retention efforts.

Communications: This award recognizes outstanding and unique public relations efforts of a chapter.

Programming: This award shall be awarded based on outstanding programming efforts that enhance the value of membership and improve member engagement.

Scholarship: This award recognizes outstanding chapter scholarship programming. Programming includes fundraising efforts, membership recruitment, diversity and inclusion efforts, and over-all scholarship dollars awarded.

Public Service: This award shall be awarded based on the chapter’s involvement in their community and their public service efforts. The award can also recognize an individual program within a chapter’s community.

Nominate your chapter for a Women Who Count Chapter Achievement Award! We love recognizing all the amazing things our chapters accomplish throughout the year. While this year has brought many challenges, our chapters have managed to excel in multiple areas. Make sure your chapter receives the proper recognition it deserves by nominating today!

Additional Information & Requirements

  • All nominees must be active members of AFWA and have professional experience within industries, firms, educational institutions, non-profit organizations or businesses that support the accounting and finance industry.
  • Nominees may work in public accounting, corporate marketing, or financial services. They may be industry service providers, professors, or small business owners. Women of all connections to the accounting and finance industry will be considered for these awards.
  • Special recognition will be made in the emerging leader, 35 and under, category.
  • Applicants may be nominated by a colleague, AFWA Chapter, or self-nominated. Applicants may be nominated by non-AFWA members.
  • Currently serving AFWA National and Foundation Board Members are not eligible for the Women Who Count Awards.
  • Award recipients will be recognized at the Women Who Count Conference.
