Busy season debrief: Turning tax season lessons into sustainable success

CPE credit: 1 hour for CPAs

Tax season may be over, but its lessons are still fresh. In this session, Dawn Brolin, CEO of Powerful Accounting, Inc., guides accounting professionals through a structured review of the most recent tax season to identify what worked, what didn’t, and what must change before the next busy season.

Participants will learn how to evaluate workload patterns, client interactions, team capacity, and technology effectiveness through a post season lens. This session will help firms move from reactive survival mode to intentional planning. Attendees will gain practical frameworks to capture lessons learned, reset boundaries, mitigate burnout risk, and refine systems that support greater efficiency, profitability, and well being throughout the year.

Learning objectives:

  • Assess tax season performance to identify patterns related to workload distribution, time management, and client demands.
  • Analyze sources of stress, bottlenecks, and burnout experienced during busy season and determine their root causes.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of workflows, delegation strategies, and technology used during tax season.
  • Apply a process to document lessons learned and prioritize improvements for the upcoming year.
