The LEAP Advisory Council was created to ensure the voice of emerging leaders is heard and utilized within the national organization. Members of LEAP are working to grow young professional membership within AFWA by developing programs and initiatives specifically designed to meet the needs of the modern accounting and finance professional.

Want to get involved? We are now accepting applications for the ’17-’18 LEAP Advisory Council.

  • Two year term begins July 1, 2017
  • Applicants must be 35 or younger at the start of the 2017 term
  • Must be an active member of AFWA

’16-17 LEAP ADVISORY COUNCIL

alanna_abreuAlanna Abreu
Audit Senior, Dannible & McKee, LLP (Syracuse, NY) 

A graduate of the LeMoyne College, Alanna holds a BS in Accounting. In her nine years in public accounting, Alanna has experience in audit, reviews, and compilations of manufacturing, construction firms, A/E firms, not-for-profit organizations, FAR audits, and employee benefit plans. In addition, she has experience with consulting services for local not-for-profits such as preparing monthly bank reconciliations, providing internal control suggestions for improvements; maintaining sub ledgers, preparing financial analysis for management and assisting with the completion of not-for-profits audits. Alanna was also selected by the New York State Society of CPA’s to be part of the Young Leadership Circle. She is an advent mentor to the staff and continues to be a positive influence to others in the working environment.

Anat-Borodyansky Anat Borodyansky, CPA
Tax Manager, Huselton, Morgan & Maultsby PC (Dallas, TX)

A graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas, Anat holds a BS in Business Administration and Accounting and Information Management as well as a MS in Accounting and Information Management. She joined HM&M in January 2008 as a Staff Accountant. In her eight years in public accounting, Anat prepared and reviewed thousands of tax returns and provided services a large number of clients from various backgrounds and histories. Anat uses a friendly and open method of communication with her clients. As a daughter of two teachers, the educator gene has been passed on to her and Anat enjoys training new accountants and shaping their professional growth and development.

Chaille_Brown Chaille Brown, CMA
Finance Manager, 22squared (Atlanta, GA)

After graduating from Ole Miss with a Bachelors of Accountancy and a BBA in Managerial Finance, Chaille began her career as a Financial Analyst for a manufacturing company.  Chaille earned her CMA in August 2014 and moved to Atlanta as a Staff Accountant at 22squared, an advertising agency, in early 2015.  15 months and two promotions later, she now supervises a team of 6 and oversees all accounting functions, financial reporting, and profitability analysis.

 

Corinne_DoughertyCorinne Dougherty, CPA, CGFM
Senior Manager, KPMG (Rockville, MD) 

Corinne Dougherty is a senior manager in KPMG’s Federal Audit Practice in Washington, DC. In her 13 years of experience, Corinne has focused on performing full scope financial statement audits of Federal cabinet-level agencies. Corinne is the past president of the AFWA DC Chapter and is currently the President of a chapter of the Association of Government Accountants. In addition, Corinne is an adjunct professor at George Washington University. Corinne was recognized by winning the KPMG Chairman’s Award for high performance. Corinne was also selected by the Greater Washington Society of CPAs as a CPA Emerging Leader. She is a graduate of University of Maryland.

Senior Accountant, Rightside (Seattle, WA)

A graduate of Whitworth University, Katherine holds a BA in Marketing and Accounting. In 2013, she started her career at Rightside and has continued to grow within the company. As a Sr. Accountant, she is responsible for the accounting of internally developed software, intangible assets and monthly variance analysis. Katherine obtained her CPA license in 2014. She currently serving as President for the Seattle Chapter of AFWA.

Senior Manager, KPMG (Washington DC)
Jennifer is a senior manager in the Federal Audit Practice at KPMG. She has also worked at KPMG in its New York and Australia offices. Jennifer is a CPA, Certified Information Systems Auditor and Certified Government Financial Manager. She has nine years of experience working on financial statement audits and her financial related audit experiences include clients in the following industries; airline, energy, automotive, natural resources, insurance, not-for-profit, and federal, state and local government

Tax Manager, Boman Accounting Group, Inc (Campbell, CA)

Edronda holds a B.S. in Business, with a concentration in Accounting. She is highly trained in not‐for‐profit auditing and tax. Edronda began her career with Boman Accounting Group, Inc. in 2009 where she supervises and trains new personnel, plans and supervises not‐for‐ profit audits and engagements from beginning to end to comply to US Auditing Standards. Working with a firm that specializes in nonprofit accounting, Edronda has come to realize the importance of donating time and services to her community and those in need and also enjoys coordinating events with family and friends to do so. Active in her local AFWA chapter, Silicon Valley, Edronda is proud to serve as Board President for 2016-2017.

Finance Manager, Aetna Medicaid Administrators (Phoenix, AZ)

Andrea started at Aetna in 2014 as a Senior Finance Analyst after receiving her MBA from WP Carey from Arizona State. Previously, she worked for Starwood Hotels for 6 years as a banquet coordinator and Bashas grocery for 7 years ending as an assistant manager. She has a Bachelor in Business with an emphasis in global finance from Arizona State. She currently serves as President of the Mesa East Valley Chapter.

Financial Reporting Analyst, Virginia Department of Accounts (Richmond, VA)

Accounting had been Sara’s first career choice after high school, but a passion for writing combined with a persuasive professor convinced her to switch majors. She earned a degree in English and began her career as a Sports Journalist in Maine. Sara later moved to Virginia where she returned to her pursuit of accounting, eventually earning a bachelors in accounting and her CPA. Sara now works in governmental accounting with the Financial Reporting division of the Virginia Department of Accounts where she is part of a team that prepares the Commonwealth’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

Jessica_Veal Jessica Veal, CPA
Novinger, Ball & Zivi, PC (Knoxville, TN)

A graduate of East Tennessee State University, Jessica holds a BA in Management and a Master of Accountancy. In 2010 she joined a small CPA firm as a Staff Accountant. She quickly realized the lack of women mentors in her firm and found AFWA as a place to connect with successful professional women in the field. With the help of an AFWA review course scholarship, Jessica earned her CPA in 2014. In 2015 she went to work for Novinger, Ball & Zivi, PC, a firm where she is able to gain additional experience in payroll preparation, compilation and reviews, tax research, and tax return preparation for a variety of industries. She is on the Board of the Knoxville Chapter of AFWA, and a member of the Tennessee Society of CPAs. She serves on the Young CPA Work Group and as a mentor to college students earning accounting degrees.  Jessica has come to realize the importance of giving back to her profession and assisting others in their career paths.
